Your cat needs a nice place to sleep. Cats like a nice soft place to lay their heads and take catnaps or to go when they are feeling insecure and need a place to hide.
One of the first decisions you need to make as a cat owner is where your new pet will sleep. Many people decide to let their cat sleep with them in bed, where they can curl up next to their owners and enjoy a good night’s sleep. Others decide that having a cat in bed with them is disgusting and troubling. They won’t have a cat in bed with them if it means they have to move out themselves!
Whatever you decide, you need to do so quickly. You want to start your cat in a pattern to let it know where and when it’s expected to sleep and where it’s expected not to sleep. If you start out letting it sleep in your bed and change your mind, you may have trouble getting your cat to stay away from your bed.
Regardless of where you want your cat to sleep at night, you will want to supply your pet with a good place to rest and hide during the day. A place it can go when it wants to nap or feel secure. This place should be in a fairly obscure location where your cat can go hide and feel comfortable that other creatures and people may not find it easily. It should also be a place that is large enough to hold your cat’s bed.
You’ll want to get a bed that includes a nice pillow or comfortable blanket for it to use. This pillow and blanket will be known as your cat’s pillow or blanket and you should encourage your pet to use them whenever it wants. It’s important for you to make your cat’s bed something soft like a pillow or blanket. If you intend to use paper in your cat’s kitty litter box, you should avoid using paper in its bed, too. This may confuse your pet unnecessarily, and you might get unwanted surprises in its bed and you may find it sleeping its litter box.
If you have difficulty getting your cat to sleep in its bed, you may want to get a heating pad to put there during the first few weeks. Turning on the heating pad inside your pet’s bed is a typical technique used to simulate the warmth and purring of the cat’s mother.
