The “Philadelphia Experiment” refers to an experiment with Einstein’s Unified Field Theory that was conducted by the U.S. Navy during World War II. This experiment allegedly resulted in the complete invisibility of a ship. A destroyer type named the U.S.S.Eldridge. As the story goes, the entire ship and its crew disappeared while at sea in October of 1943.
After returning to port in Philadelphia the experimental ship somehow disappeared from its dock and within a few minutes, appeared at its other dock in Norfolk. Finally, a few minutes later the ship vanished again only to reappear at the Philadelphia dock. The story continues to tell how most of the crew went insane. At one point, the crew destroyed a local tavern near the Norfolk dock… while they were still invisible!
There is no concrete evidence that this experiment ever took place. However, this did not stop the story from growing more unbelievable each time it was retold. At last look, the ill-fated crewmembers had fallen into another dimension and encountered aliens.
Alfred Bielek has been giving lectures to New Age groups on his experience before and after the experiment. Mr. Bielek and his brother were assigned to the U.S.S. Eldridge during the experiment and tells the following tale about it. When it became apparent to them that the experiment had gone drastically wrong, they tried to escape by jumping overboard. They found themselves being hurled through a tunnel and found themselves in 1983. In an attempt to find their way back, they met the noted mathematician John Von Neumann. He had helped to design the equipment that was installed on the Eldridge for this experiment. With Von Neumann’s help, Bielek and his brother returned to 1943 just long enough to destroy the equipment on board. The reason for this was because the experiment had created a time warp around the ship. This time warp was enlarging and threatened to engulf the planet.
